Taizu's war
When the Northern Song came into power it was probably different then most takeovers. All around the total campaign was different. Everything was carefully planned out t0 make sure everything would be perfect with no falliure and be really peaceful.Taizu was always open to negotiating with the enemy. Before he attacked he would try to make an agreement that did not involve fighting. He also told his army to try and avoid blood shed whenever possible . Another great thing about the campaign was Taizu; the first emperor. Taizu was so good because he tried to make things as peaceful as possible. Even when he stormed the palace. There was barley even any fighting. Another good thing that happened with the campaign was that with fighting was that when he took over city's he also unified them so by the time he was done most of china was unified.

The Best Emperor in the Northern Song Dynasty

Taizu was the greatest emperor in the Northern Song Dynasty. He was a military genius for many reasons. Taizu was also very intelligent and helped the dynasty grow and expand. One of the reasons why Taizu was a great emperor was how he took over the former dynasty. He tried to have as little fighting and bloodshed as possible. When he stormed the palace he did not kill any of the royal family. He even offered them positions in his new government. Another reason why Taizu was the best is because he was extremely intelligent. An example of his intelligence is how he dealt with the people that he could become enemy's with. Instead of just killing them which could anger more people he made them into his friends. He gave them large areas of land that weren't to far from the palace so he could keep an eye on them. All in All Taizu was the greatest emperor in the Northern Song Dynasty.

A Letter From K'ai-feng

Dear Father,
K'ai-feng is amazing. there is so much to do. It's so much busier and lively than our village. I have sent along with this letter a picture that i bought to show how different it is than our home. Everywhere there are merchants trying to sell you things like fish and rice. Also the palace is amazing! It is enormous. I think that it is the size of our whole village. It is like a city inside a city. Soon I think I am going to find a job. I heard that in K'ai-feng there is a lot of buisnesses that are using a new type of printing books called "wood block printing". Maybe I could be an apprentice printer or assitant printer and someday own my own printing company. It seems to be very profitable job.

Sincerely,
Li-Chi

Huizong- Emperor and Artist

Huizong was last the emperor in the Northern Song Dynasty. He was not like the other emperors of a couple of reasons. For one he was very gentle. He did not go around killing people when he did something wrong. Another thing is that he was not the best emperor. He was not very good with politics. Finally difference of Huizong is that he loved art. it was one of his most favorite things. Throughout his life he contributed greatly to art in china. He even invented a style of calligraphy called "Slender Gold Style". Huizong also was very good at the types of art in Ancient China; painting, poetry, and calligraphy. Also Huizong founded a school of painting called: The School of Painting. In his school Huizong personally taught students how to paint landscapes and still life paintings.

Warfare- Gunpowder

Gunpowder was first invented around 800 A.D. which was before the Northern Song Dynasty. At first it was only used for enjoyment like for example fireworks. It was never used in war until the middle of the Northern Song Dynasty. It was used first as a type of bomb. Back then they were called Flame Throwers. It was made of a bamboo tube filled with gunpowder. It was lit then thrown at the enemy soldiers. Gunpowder was also used in primitive cannons like the one above. They were not very accurate but were very good for back then.Gunpowder changed war forever. Without gunpowder we would still be fighting with swords. There might be less death but wars could be longer because they could not be ended with a single drop of a bomb.
